Introduction

As the whole world has moved gracefully in the 21st century, the plight of widows still continues and they have to suffer for the rest of their lives because of such things. Such women are not invited to a simple turmeric Kumkum, devotional or any other auspicious deed, on the contrary, they are thrown into such a program. It is unjust to exclude a woman from the mainstream of society for being a widow. Such practices may be slightly different in other states. However, such an undesirable practice does not suit progressive Maharashtra. Therefore, there is a need for all progressive men and women to start a movement to stop this practice, to raise awareness against this practice and to force the government to enact a law to stop this practice. It should be kept in mind that half of the total population of Maharashtra is affected due to such practices.

Therefore, in this context, MPSSM has already taken concrete steps to address this issue, wherein we have brought together 138 people, who represent NGOs, village leaders, women activists on one platform. We have formed a whatsapp group and the movement has already taken small steps and because of which some villages have already passed the resolutions that the unethical practices on widow women will be banned from their village. Even the State of Goa has raised this concern in its Assembly.  However, without capacity building of CSOs, govt representatives, MPs and MLAs  and Sarpanch a concrete state level and national level sustainable efforts cannot be answered.
